Colonel HOWARD J. JONES

Col Jones is a Residency Trained Flight Surgeon, 101 MDG, 101 Air Refueling Wing (ARW), Bangor, Maine. Administers the aerospace medicine program; conducts medical examinations and provides medical care for aircrew, missile crews, and special duty operators. He evaluates living and working environments to detect and control health hazards and prevent disease and injury within the Air Force community. Provides occupational medicine support. Participates in the process of determining frequency and scope of occupational medicine exams required by federal regulations and workplace exposures.

Col Jones began his military career in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corp, Tampa Florida on an Air Force Scholarship where he studied microbiology in 1982. He was admitted to medical school prior to graduation and was released from his commitment to the Air Force. He commissioned in the Army National Guard in Florida 1984. Upon completion of medical school he entered a duel residency in Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine. During this time he served in the New Jersey Air National Guard as a Flight Surgeon. In 2012 he commissioned as a Major in the Maine Air National Guard as a Public Health Officer. In 2014, due to the needs of the 101st Medical Group he converted to an Internal Medicine Physician. In 2016, now a Lt Col, he assumed his current Role of Residency Trained Flight Surgeon. He became the 101st Medical Group Commander on 1 September 2021, a position he holds today.

He obtained a Masters of Public Health from Columbia University. Col Jones served as the Medical Director of Domestic Petroleum Production, Houston, TX. In 1994, he assumed the position of Medical Director of North Carolina Baptist Health Systems until he moved to Maine in 1999. Once in Maine, Col Jones entered private practice in Internal Medicine and Occupation al Medicine Waldo County General Hospital where he served as Director of Internal Medicine, Critical Care, and Hospital Services. Concurrently, Col Jones served as a consultant to a number of insurance companies and healthcare systems regarding occupational health services. He performed more than 3000 specialty evaluation in request of the State of Maine for the Workers Compensation Board and insurance carries concerning complex occupational health cases particularly involving toxicology. He has served as a Certified Medical Review Officer and Medical Examiner Trainer for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. In 2011 he became Medical Director for Occupational Health Services for Northern Light Healthcare Services where he currently oversees 11 separate clinics. He is a certified instructor for National Institutes of Occupational Safety and Health (spirometry) and the Council for the Accreditation of Hearing Conservation (Course Director).
