Colonel DOUGLAS F. FRANKLIN

Col Douglas Franklin  

Colonel Franklin is the Commander of the101st Mission Support Group at the 101st Air Refueling Wing in Bangor, Maine. He is responsible for organizing, training and equipping 400 Airmen in the largest and most diverse group in the Wing. He oversees the Logistics Readiness Squadron, Force Support Squadron, Civil Engineering Squadron, Security Forces Squadron, Communications Flight and Contracting Office. The 101st Mission Support Group also provides operational support to maintain and sustain base infrastructure with 77 state employees.

In 1988, Col Franklin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Marine Security Guard and in the infantry as a specialist in anti-armor and demolitions. He earned the Combat Action Ribbon as a member of Task Force Ripper during Operation Desert Storm. Upon completion of his enlistment, he entered college and joined the Maine Air National Guard as a Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Instructor. Col Franklin became active in the Phoenix Raven Program and holds Raven number 814. 

In 2004, Col Franklin was selected for commissioning as a Logistics Readiness Officer. He graduated from the Academy of Military Science in Knoxville, TN. In 2005, he graduated the Logistics Readiness Officers Course at Lackland AFB, TX. Col Franklin has deployed numerous times in various capacities in both enlisted and officer roles in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. In 2014, he was assigned to the 101 ARW Inspector General’s Office During this assignment, he was the principal advisor to the Wing Commander for Air Force Complaints Resolution and the Air Force Inspection System. In 2019 he was assigned as the Commander of 101st Security Forces Squadron. Prior to assuming his current position, he was selected to serve as Deputy Commander of the 101st Mission Support Group.
