In 1988, Lt Col Franklin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Marine Security Guard and in the infantry as a specialist in anti-armor and demolitions. He earned the Combat Action Ribbon as a member of Task Force Ripper during Operation Desert Storm. Upon completion of his enlistment, he entered college and joined the Maine Air National Guard as a Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Instructor. In 2000, this AFSC was combined with Security Forces. Lt Col Franklin became active in the Phoenix Raven Program and holds Raven number 814.
In 2004, Lt Col Franklin was selected for a commission as a Logistics Readiness Officer and graduated from the Academy of Military Science in Knoxville, TN. In 2005, he graduated the Logistics Readiness Officers Course at Lackland AFB, TX. Lt Col Franklin has deployed numerous times in various capacities in both enlisted and officer roles in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. In 2014, he joined the 101 ARW Inspector General’s Office and served in several positions until 2019 when he was assigned as the Commander of 101st Security Forces Squadron. In 2020, he was selected to serve as Deputy Commander of the 101st Mission Support Group and in 2024 he assumed Command of the 101st Mission Support Group.
In December of 2016, Lt Col Franklin retired from the Maine State Police after nearly 24 years of service, performing rural patrol and firearms instructor duties. Additionally, Lt Col Franklin has extensive training in Emergency Management and served on the Maine State Police Incident Management Assistance Team as the Logistics Section Chief. Lt Col Franklin is a graduate of Husson College in Bangor, Maine and a native of Newport, Maine where he currently resides with his wife Diane and two sons, Andrew and Zachary.
